Its time to practice better sleep habits, lets get to it! 😴 Sleep affects your mental state. According to Sleep Foundation, brain activity fluctuates during your sleep in the different stages that make up the sleep cycle. In NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep, brain activity slows while there are still quick bursts of energy and in REM sleep, brain activity picks up so this stage is commonly known as the one that includes intense dreaming. These stages play a role in brain health to enable better thinking, learning and memory while also having an effect on emotional and mental health. Quality sleep, especially in the REM cycle, facilitates the brains processing of emotional information. The brain reflects on thoughts and memories during sleep and a lack of sleep is harmful to the processing of positive content. This can influence emotional reactivity and someones overall mood.
